Common questions

Which Form 990 do we file?

Generally, organizations with gross receipts normally $50,000 or less can file the 990-N; those with gross receipts under $200,000 and total assets under $500,000 can file the 990-EZ; others file the full 990. HookBooks works out which applies from your books and maps your accounts to the form's lines.

Is HookBooks fund accounting software?

HookBooks keeps your accounts in a standard nonprofit chart, and your reports show income and expenses by account and year. If you need detailed grant tracking, talk to us about how you track funds today.

Can our accountant or auditor get access?

Yes. Invite them with bookkeeper or view-only access. Every change is logged, and entries are never edited or deleted, so the audit trail is complete.

Do we need payroll to use HookBooks?

No. The $25 plan has everything except payroll. Add payroll for $40 a month when you hire.
